Wick Ladies Hockey Training

Wick Hockey Club train at the Bristol Metropolitan Academy in Fishponds, Bristol. See the Find-Us page for directions.

19:30 - 20:00 Fitness training

20:00 - 21:15 Skills Training

We train from September through to the April of the following year. Training is not on during the summer months.

What you need for Training

You need the following things for training:

  • Stick (new players can borrow sticks)
  • Shin Pads (required)
  • Gum shield (recommended)
  • Astroturf shoes (recommended)
  • Hockey glove (Optional)
  • Water!

Fitness Training

Fitness training lasts for 30 minutes and is taken by Amanda. This short session consists of interval running and muscle conditioning activities.

Skills Training

Skills training is taken by Katie and Amanda and consists of hockey drills to improve fitness, hand-eye coordination, game awareness and general hockey skills.

The drills are designed to cover all defence, mid-field and attacking play. Drills are chosen based on improvement needs, as discussed by players and coaches and decisions by the Captain.

The last part of the skills training is generally a short game.

If we are lucky, Elliot S may decide to come along and impart a bit of hockey wisdom on us during a training session!
